A Sprinkle for a Sprout
This weekend I went to a little sprinkle for my very best friend. She has two boys, and they both got a blanket when they were on their way. One of them is permanently featured in my logo.
This one is a girl. And we thought an heirloom blanket would suit her best. Something she might pass down to her little one someday. I settled on the Cathedral Heirloom Blanket.
This blanket is light, soft, and airy. Perfect for a May baby. She can be swaddled and wrapped in love on chilly summer nights without being too warm. Made with Polka Dot Sheep Tenderfoot 80/20 in color Beargrass, it's soft merino and still machine washable and dryable.
I had the blanket done, and decided this little one needed more. I thought about what I make for the people I love, and I immediately thought of socks. And socks for babies are wee and fly right off the needles.
These were all made with leftover sock yarn from the stash. There are adult versions of these socks wandering the universe somewhere from socks years past. And I doubt she remembers, but one of this little one's Aunts received a pair of Yoga socks made from the pink about a decade ago.
As the presents were opened and the blanket passed around, all of the sisters pulled me aside separately and told me how they still have the blankets made for each of their little ones, and how they keep them safely packed away, and how well they've held up over the years. And I was told that a special hat I made for Mom was worn all throughout her difficult journey and back to health.
Those are the stories I love, and the reason why I will always have a blanket ready.
We can't wait to meet you, Baby Girl.
