A Kiwi of my Own

It's about time I made a post here.  I've been knitting, I'm always knitting.  But I've also been a little busy making something else that requires far more yarn and far less knitting.

I've always said that there will never be a baby born on my watch that didn't have a blanket to come home in.  When it's MY baby, they better have more than one.

First up I wanted something with an heirloom feel to it.  I'd been eyeing the Sea of Dreams blanket for years, and it's time has finally come.

Made with Louet Gems 100% Merino in color Cream, it has a lovely drape and is warmer than you'd think for a light worsted weight.

I absolutely adore it.  It came out just as I had hoped, and it will definitely be the blanket we bring to the hospital when the time comes.

Blanket #2 needed to have a fun feel to it.  Something we could lay on the floor with, drag with us on car rides, tuck into carseats and strollers and bags.  I opted for my standard Entrelac Blanket.  I've made this more times than I can count, and I'm always happy with it.

It works best with a subtly striping yarn.  Something that will blend seamlessly from one color to the next so you're never quite sure which rectangle changes the color.  I went with Louisa Harding Amitola Grande in color Berries.

It's a wool/silk blend and incredibly light and airy.  The drape feels like something that's already been worn and loved for years.

Both blankets wait patiently, for now, on the recliner in the nursery.  I'll be packing them away in hospital bags and diaper bags before I know it.

I'm trying to slow down time, hoping this one doesn't grow up as quickly as my son has.  But I think that may be futile.  Everything is already in hyperdrive.

There is much to knit and exponentially less time to do it.
